"One of the quiet masterpieces of British music" (Andrew Clements, The Guardian)
Based on the story of Savitri and Satyavan from the Sanscrit epic text the Mahābhārata, Holst's opera is a powerful musical depiction of the battle between love and death.
The British soprano Meeta Raval will take on the title role, with a terrific ensemble cast comprising tenor Kamil Bien and bass Julian Close.
Prior to performances Savitri will be a performance of a new 5 minute work composed by Sarah Sayeed and written by Jaspreet Kaur. Their work reimagines Savitri for 21st audiences and society.
